This debut thriller features a likeable protagonist, even if she does have some serial killer tendencies.
Ruby does not have any anger issues, in fact she is an animal lover and an empath who is currently a doctor of psychology with a thriving therapy practice. When she's accused of murdering her husband, Jason, and arrested by the Miami Beach Police Department, she starts reminiscing about some previous nefarious behavior in her past. She just might have been responsible for the deaths of three others, but she did not kill her husband.
This was so fun and clever and I really enjoyed it. I was rooting for Ruby, despite her bad behavior, because she is so self-aware and cares so deeply about those she loves. Told in shifting time periods going back to her childhood and up to present day, Ruby is a marvelous narrator with rich insight and a unique way of managing her life.
Thank you to NetGalley and G.P. Putnam's Sons for the e-book ARC to read, review, and recommend.
